Consumers rely on state inspections of assisted living facilities to inform their choices, protect the health and safety of their loved ones and ensure compliance with laws. The proliferation of assisted living facilities has resulted in an increased burden on state licensing and regulatory agencies. In response to the increased demand, states are developing new inspection models, e.g., weighted licensing indicator systems. The Assisted Living Consumer Alliance (“ALCA”) believes that it is important to discuss the effectiveness of these new inspection systems, and explore how advocates can work to improve them.
Please join ALCA and our distinguished panelists for a discussion of inspection models from academic, regulatory, and consumer perspectives at our webinar – Inspections of Assisted Living Facilities. Jody Spiegel, ALCA Board Member and Director of the Nursing Home Advocacy Project at Bet Tzedek Legal Services, will lead the discussion. Our speakers, experts in their fields, include: Richard Fiene, Ph.D., Professor, Human Development and Family Studies, Penn State University – Harrisburg; Mary Jolls, Administrator, Adult and Senior Care Program, California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division; and Sarah Slocum; Michigan State Long Term Care Ombudsman, Michigan Office of Services to the Aging.
