Consumer Voice Director of Public Policy Janet Wells and Consumer Voice Board Member Robyn Grant, of United Senior Action, were recently quoted in a The Star article "Crisis of care among state nursing homes - 1 in 10 Indiana nursing homes is rated among the worst in the U.S." The article is the first of a series of stories about Indiana's nursing home industry. According to the article, Indiana has more "most poorly performing" nursing homes than any other state in the U.S. due largely to the low levels of the key workers make the most difference in quality care. The Star found those staffing shortages were worst in for-profit facilities, which provide care for 70 percent of Indiana's nearly 40,000 nursing home residents.
