Consumer Voice Celebrates 35th Anniversary

This year marks the Consumer Voice's 35th Anniversary - which is the perfect opportunity to once again thank our entire network of consumers, advocates, families, ombudsmen and others who have worked tirelessly for decades to advance the rights, protection and voices of long-term care consumers across this nation!

Want to share your congratulations with the Consumer Voice on our anniversary? E-mail your comments to Sarah Wells, and we'll post them here.

I want to express my congratulations by wishing you, the Consumer Voice, a happy 35 Birthday and may you have many more!!
- Jerry Kasunic

Hats off to the Consumer Voice - the birth place of the Nursing Home Reform Law, the Transparency Act, NASOP, NALLTCO, the Pioneer Movement and the Direct Care Alliance! The Consumer Voice's core values - empowered consumers, respect for residents and workers, accountability of government agencies, individualized care planning, person-centered care and adequate staffing for quality of care AND quality of life - are as important for the future as they were in shaping the past. It was an honor to be a part of the Consumer Voice's history. Best wishes for the future!
- Alice H. Hedt

Back in the beginning years of the Consumer Voice, I was privileged to represent the volunteers in my community (Portland Gray Panthers) at the national Consumer Voice meeting held in Detroit, Michigan. This changed my life! I am proud to see our founding visions - to help create safe, competent and loving communities for our disabled elders - alive and well today at the Consumer Voice.
- R. Douglas Rogers

Congratulations on 35 years of successful efforts to assure quality care for our older citizens! My wife, Harriet Nehring, and Anna (Petey) Cerf were members of the original Steering Committee that organized the Consumer Voice. They also organized Kansans for Improvement of Nursing Homes, now Kansas Advocates for Better Care, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year as well. Elma Holder and her cohorts were pioneers who have made a difference in people's lives!
- Earl Nehring

- Sarah Burger

Congratulations on your anniversary and thank you for all your efforts in getting the best care for our seniors in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. This is crucial work and an ongoing challenge that requires vigilance. With parents that have gone through the hardship of late in life care, I know the difficulty of day-to-day concern. Even in the best of facilities understaffing is still a huge problem. We need to increase the ratio of "aide to patient" care in all the states and just compensation for these real care givers. There are really good people out there whose hands are too full and get burnt out. We will all be in those worn out hands some day. Please let me know what I can do in this endeavor. Keep up the good work.
- Marianne Mazziotta
