A Helpless Person's Plea for Empathy

by D., Arizona

I lie here all alone totally helpless
to be on my own,
even too weak to think or converse,
ever aware of even the worse.

It is so nice when one comes at last
to tend to my needs, to fill up my glass,
a gentle caring, a loving concern,
to make my life better in some simple form.

Life is so empty, so hard to endure
when there is no one who cares
to comfortable or cure.

Nothing means more in our lifetime to know
there's someone who tries their compassion to show.
